PATCHOGUE, NY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team joined forces with Skyline Conference rival, St. Joseph's College-Long Island to participate in the Zumbathon Fundraiser for the Troops on August 9 in Patchogue, New York.  The three-hour event was run by zumba instructors from the Roseland School of Dance in Ronkonkoma, New York and raised over $2,000 for the Long Island State Veterans Home, Wounded Warrior Project and Boots on the Ground NY.

"Our armed forces risk everything to serve our country," said Old Westbury's head softball coach Mary Jo Fazio.  "The least we can do is a few hours of zumba to help raise awareness and funds to help serve them.  Our student-athletes took a day away from their summer break and did a great job helping the cause."

Fazio along with student-athletes Delana Murray, Gabriella Valdes, Alexis Ferrero, Katie Rizzo and Nicole DeCola represented Old Westbury at the event.

During the 2013-14 academic year, the Panthers participated in both the Roseland School of Dance's Zumbathon (10/19/13) and the Valentine's Zumba "How Do I Love Thee, Let Me Count the Ways" for the American Heart Association (2/22/14) in Ronkonkoma.
