Old Westbury volunteered at the Special Olympics Long Island Fall Classic for the seventh-straight year

HICKSVILLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) For the seventh-straight year, SUNY Old Westbury baseball volunteered at the Special Olympics Long Island Fall Classic September 23 at Cantiague Park in Hicksville, New York.

"I am very proud of our student-athletes for continuing to take part in our team tradition," said SUNY Old Westbury head baseball coach Rod Stephan. "Throughout the years, we have formed relationships, mentored and supported athletes in various sports at this event."

Stephan, along with assistant coaches Mike Atan and Joe Povinelli, and Old Westbury's baseball student-athletes William Amendola, Michael Borsch, Peter Capel, John Condon, Jon Dastagirzada, Ryan Durbar, Jason Espinal, Michael Gismondi, Adam Heidenfelder, John Fogarty, Shaun Kaminsky, Dom Kriegel, Nic Labiento, Justin LaRosa, Tommy Macri, Mike Mannetta, Austin Mars, Vinny Negri, Chris Pasqueralli, Christian Ramkissoon, Tyler Roberts, Jesse Russo, Joe Sarni, Tyler Saravisky, Dean Sheridan, Liam Slattery and Vinny Trovato enjoyed positive interactions with Special Olympics New York's dedicated and enthusiastic throng of athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans.

The student-athletes were responsible for helping set up and break down and run operations for bocce, cross country, golf, soccer and softball events, keep score during competitions, stage athletes as well as assisting with the opening and closing ceremonies.

Hundreds of athletes participated in the 2017 Fall Classic competing in the five above mentioned sports as well as various skills competitions.
