Old Westbury women's lacrosse volunteered for a cause that raised $199,172 from the event

MASSAPEQUA, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse volunteered at the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer on September 23 at Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, New York.

"Having our student-athletes together to build team unity at an event of this magnitude is a great way to give back for a great cause," said SUNY Old Westbury head women's lacrosse coach Lauren Schneider. "Being associated with the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer was heartfelt."

Members of the women's lacrosse program helped the event organizers set up tents before directing participants throughout the 5K course that traveled through the neighborhood north of Westfield Sunrise Mall.

Schneider, along with assistant coach Bob Schmitt, and Old Westbury women's lacrosse student-athletes LaChaye Allen, Yaritza Caraballo, Roseann Cox, Erica Fonseca, Taylor Guarneri, Ashley Gugliuzzo, Chelsey Hoffman, Cameron Isnardi, Edania Martinez, Natasha Treuman and Danielle Weir participated in the event.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has spent more than a half century finding cures and saving children, and their groundbreaking research has helped push the survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent in 1962 to more than 80 percent today.

As of press time, this event helped raise $199,172 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Thanks to committed fundraisers, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything. To donate, click here.
