@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball volunteers at Ovarian Cancer Run/Walk

Old Westbury’s women’s basketball team volunteered in the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition 5K Run/Walk event at Belmont Lake State Park on September 24

NORTH BABYLON, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball volunteered at the 10th annual National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer at Belmont Lake State Park on September 24.

The 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer is the largest fundraiser and awareness event for the NOCC. The NOCC Long Island Chapter's event raised over $120,000 to further NOCC's mission. This awareness raising event celebrates Ovarian Cancer survivors, and remembers those that were lost to the disease.

"It is important that student-athletes understand that they have a role to play in the community off the court," said SUNY Old Westbury head women's basketball coach Michael Krasnoff. "It was an honor for our program to serve as volunteers for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer. We came away with a great feeling by supporting those who have courageously battled this disease and look forward to contributing to the fight at this high-level event next year."

Members of the women's basketball program helped the event organizers with operations within the registration tents. The team assisted the NOCC with registration and donations in addition to distributing event t-shirts and official race tags to the participants.

Krasnoff, along with Old Westbury women's basketball team members Tori Bellings, Alexandra Bongiorno, Atalah Eady, Alexis Hart, Paige Jelinek, Monique Joseph, Imani Lariosa and Charlotte Renker participated in the event.
