OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer and volleyball teams, along with key athletic department and campus personnel gave back to the community Wednesday (Aug. 23) at Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury as part of the State University of New York's sponsorship of "SUNY's Got Your Back" program.  Volunteers assembled 5,000 comfort bags at The Northern Trust to open the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) FedExCup Playoffs.

The comfort bags contained items such as toiletries, resources pages, and personal notes to victims and survivors of violence across New York State.  In addition to the PGA TOUR, this year's "SUNY's Got Your Back" program was supported by the New York State Police, Staples, Field Notes, Notes Inc. USA/Dupli Envelopes and Graphics, Monster Energy, Nielson, and Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York. For more information about the program, visit www.suny.edu/gotyourback.

"Providing support in any way we can for those who are victims of violence and abuse is a role that each and every one of us should play when we have the opportunity," said SUNY Old Westbury President Calvin O. Butts, III.  "I was proud today to see so many SUNY Old Westbury students and staff volunteer their time to help generate awareness, raise funds and create comfort bags for those in need.  Through programs like 'SUNY's Got Your Back,' our students, staff and the community our college serves experience the importance of speaking out and supporting victims of violence and abuse."

SUNY Old Westbury was joined by professional golfers Danny Lee, Patrick Rodgers, and Anirban Lahiri, as well as volunteers from the PGA Tour Wives Association, NYS Department of Health, New York State Police, the state Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, the state Office of Victim Services, and AmeriCorps.

"I am proud to see our student-athletes working together from this rewarding experience to give back to those in need," said SUNY Old Westbury director of athletics Lenore J. Walsh.

"It was an amazing opportunity to work side-by-side with SUNY students and staff to give back to those in need," said SUNY Old Westbury head women's soccer coach Betty Bohringer.  "We are looking forward to delivering some packages to support centers that will disperse the items to women in need."

Bohringer, along with assistant women's soccer coach William Frohnhoefer, and student-athletes Tosin Akinfeleye, Alysha Annarella, Tajhanai Balugahale, Deanna Ciotola, Mary Clark, Shauna Henderson, Alexa Higgins, Ally Hunjic, Nicole Jones, Keyanna Jones-Rocourt, Gabby Lamanno, Gianna Levine, Cara Normile, Ashley Onofre, Alicia Pirone, Keleyna Romoleroux, Effie Shani, Paulina Vairo and Skye Williams represented the women's soccer program.

"It was amazing to see the large number of volunteer support for such a great cause," said SUNY Old Westbury head women's volleyball coach Rich Borawksi.  "Our team was willing and ready to lend a hand to SUNY's program."

Borawski was joined by assistant women's volleyball coach Aly Ciccone, and women's volleyball student-athletes Kemari Best, Danielle Corsi, Monica Crespo, Nikia Gardon, Sofia Goris, Kristin Grieshaber, Sidasia Johnson, Shanayia Lloyd, Amanda Neenan, Olivia O'Keefe and Jessica Tuckruskye.
